Elijah and I spent the night at the Hancheys so that we could help out and watch Madison, and to spend some bonus time with them before we head over seas.
I think Elijah was a little enamored with Madison... She was a great entertainer to say the least!

Okay, so MAYBE I'm a little hard on him! "Technically" Elijah's BEEN sitting on his own, but not steadily, as I put him on our pillow top bed which DOES make it harder for a learner to master his skill.
...Guess that's why I was so surprised to see him sitting upright unsupported for a good bit without toppling over. We've started practicing on a "real surface"... the floor!
Of course I have him surrounded in pillows b/c the in-laws have hard wood floors in some of the rooms.
Regardless, he was bouncing all over the place and catching himself without falling. Well, for a good bit, anyway!
Way to go, Elijah!

Today Elijah had his first try at Green Peas. He didn't seem to have much of a reaction, so I wanted to try the Sweet Potatoes again. Still... the funny face was made with the sweet potatoes. Haha... At least he'll still eat them!

Afterward he started throwing his little fussy fits. He's not crying. He's not screaming. He's just fussing. Fussing, Fussing, FUSSING. I can't wait until he can speak! WHAT is WRONG, Elijah??? lol.

I decided to take a picture of my little angel in his bassinet because he is WAY too large for it and I thought it was funny. (We're in "limbo" status with our living, people. I don't have the crib!)
I was in utter disbelief when I saw pictures side by side of him as a newborn, and him NOW in it!
...And it's only been 5 MONTHS!

My mom has had some continuous health problems for a while now. She's already had congestive heart failure, and has two stints put in her arteries due to blocked blood flow. I was informed that there was yet another part of her heart that was not getting appropriate blow flow due to 70% blockage of another artery.

I'm happy to say that she is okay, but had to get another stint put in (yes, it's her 3rd one).
For anyone who is reading this, please just pray that her health will get better.
After all, I'm not ready to say goodbye...

Elijah and I went to visit her for a little bit. At least Elijah put a smile on her face!

Today Laura came to visit! We had a lot of fun... shopping and doing "gal" things, while Grandma Hackett played "babysitter" (Thanks Graciela!).
This was the first time that Laura had seen Elijah since her wedding, so of course he'd changed a good bit. Laura is incredible with children, so it was neat watching her and Elijah play. She'll be a fantastic mother someday (Sooner than later, "Larsh"!...HINT, HINT)!
However; it WAS a bit surreal! It seems like just yesterday we were pre-teens playing "Marco-Polo" in the backyard pool. WOW, how the time flies!

It's been one week since we tried Rice Cereal with Elijah, and today I was THRILLED to start a new food! Yay for Sweet Potatos!
Unfortunately, Elijah didn't have the same reaction that I did... BUT we're not quitters!
He ate it anyway, and I'm SURE he'll adjust to the new taste. However; I could not RESIST his reaction! Goodness, it was precious!

Yes, we know that it's early, but our little Angel is CUTTING his TEETH! =)
Currently there is only one starting to poke through his gums (his bottom left front tooth, which is on the right for all of you looking at the picture... lol).
His top front teeth are right at the surface, but not poking through yet.

I've been working on "Sitting" with Elijah. He's not quite ready yet, but I am SO proud of him for working so hard. He has moments sitting completely unsupported, but of course he's too young to be consistent. Regardless, he's getting used to being "upright". I think propping him against the couch (for example) has helped in at least creating an "interest" in being upright.

Now that he's "eating", this whole "big boy thing" just may be appealing to him! ;)

While visiting the Dr. sometime last week, I brought up the subject of "feeding". Although she doesn't like to start some children on food until 6 months, she felt that Elijah was more than ready to GO FOR IT! Yay!

Today was our first go at Organic Rice Cereal. He was SUCH a trooper! He didn't reject it at ALL! I'm so proud of our little guy! He's SUCH a quick learner... and if anything like his mommy and daddy... a PRO EATER! ;)

I'm excited to see what other foods he'll enjoy!

Today Elijah rolled from his belly to his back! He's been rolling from his back to his belly, but now both ways! We're so excited for him... and of course, proud of him! He's rolling everywhere! lol!

In addition, he's just now starting to like the mirror. Not sure why it's taken him this long, as before he HATED to look at himself... But today he LOVED it! He was talking and laughing at himself! I'm a little bummed that I didn't capture video footage, but it was just precious!

Lol... Okay, Okay. So Elijah "Gets around"! What can I say, he LOVES his ladies! haha.

Today Elijah and I visited the Parkers. Yep, he got to see little Gabriella for the first time in a month or so. Goodness, they were just IRRESISTIBLE together! I promise you, NONE of the pictures were "posed". We just put them side-by-side and they went at it! Yes, I think we have a future marriage on our hands!

Today Elijah turns 5 months! I can't believe how quickly the time flies by!
Unfortunately Daddy wasn't able to be here, but of COURSE he wouldn't let his baby boy go empty handed! Mike sent Elijah an E-Birthday Card, in which I read to him. It brought tears to my eyes b/c I know how much Mike wants to be with him and hold him.
The least I could do was take a pic of the E-Card for Elijah's scrapbook...

I love that he'll be able to look back, years down the road, and know that Daddy was never away in spirit nor in heart.
Happy 5 month birthday, Elijah. You're loved far greater than you will ever know. That is, until you have a precious little angel of your own. ;)

Last night Elijah and I went to the Hancheys for the night.
It was nice to "hang" with the gang.

Later that night Maddison and I played "catch", while Elijah was watching near by in his Jumper. Apparently playing catch is funny now-a-days, as Elijah kept cracking up as the ball flew through the air. Of COURSE his laugh turned contagious...
Summer, Maddison, Elijah and I were all laughing for about 30 minutes straight.
It was just adorable!

Mike had been gone for almost week, but had been only a few hours away (South GA).
I took Elijah and headed down to see him for a few nights before his official take-off over seas.

We got a really nice suite to stay in, but we didn't get to spend much time together, as he was over-loaded with things to do. At this point any time is better than no time.
We did, however, get a chance to take Elijah to the pool for his first swim!

We were SO excited! We bought some "little swimmers" (diapers made for the water), put on his "Tommy Hilfiger" bathing suit, and headed to the water. I guess I was expected a huge reaction... only to get nothing more than a "neutral" one. lol...
I'm not sure if Elijah was distracted by the other kids, but he didn't even act like he knew he was IN the water! Oh well... at least he LOOKED cute! ;)
OH, and at least I know he didn't HATE the water!

Obviously before we headed home, we had to face the dreaded... GOODBYE.
It broke my heart to watch Mike kiss Elijah for the last time (for a while), and to know that Elijah won't get to see or be held by his daddy.
In addition, I thought of all the things that Mike will miss Elijah do while he is gone (Thank GOODNESS for 1. Web cams 2. Video Cameras and 3. Cameras).
I know we will only be separated for a short while, but at Elijah's age, SO much changes in a short period of time.

As I drove away in tears, I knew that we were making the right decision... and although I was in emotional pain, I had peace... and still have peace. We will miss our "Mikey" dearly... and baby, we will see you soon! Be careful over there! We love and ADORE you!

We went to Washington D.C. so that Mike could finish some paper work at his corporate office before he heads out to Kuwait.
Elijah and I will not be far behind...

Needless to say, in that short span, we will miss him dearly. We're trying to spend as much time together as we can until then.

The trip was short but sweet (Although the ride to and from with Elijah was
M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E! Let's just say he was SICK of being in the car seat!!)
We got to site see, although most of it was from INSIDE the car.
Most importantly, we got to spend more time together. ;)

We're Moving to Kuwait!

Okay, so this may come as a shock to some of you, but Mike has accepted a contracting position in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Although it sounds scary, Mike has been there twice before, spending a total of 2.5 years there. In addition, I've done a lot of research and networking and have befriended a lot of American females who currently live there with their husbands. I've gotten a lot of feedback, and am actually looking forward to the change (and yes, I am welcoming the culture shock).

In having said that, we've started the moving process. Our house is in shambles, and boxes are EVERYWHERE! AAaahh! lol.

Today, after "walker" shopping, we went to the Abbott's to celebrate their son, Landon's, 2nd birthday!
It was in Douglasville, so we had a bit of a drive ahead of us (Nothing too bad, but I DID have extra time in the car). Daddy (Mike) was playing chauffeur, So what to do???
PHOTO SHOOT... of course!!! lol. (I'm a dork, I KNOW!)

We had a blast! The pool was in use, the sprinklers and slip-n-slides were out, and the grill was lit up! Hamburgers, cake, drinks, and friends!
...Good times!

Thank goodness Elijah was being SO good! Of course he was adored by all... and yes, even by Landon, who kept wanting to "rub" him! It was just precious!

Today I had to run some errands, so Grandma Hackett came over to watch Elijah for a bit.

We woke up super early and went to the Hackett Granparents house to drop off Elijah for the day! Today was "Date Day", and I was "Oh so ready"!

First we drove up to Dahlonega to The Wolf Mountain Vineyard and Winery. We got to look around on their Vineyard and eat brunch on the cafe's patio, overlooking the mountains. It was absolutely breathtaking! The food was "delish"! In addition, I ordered some of the Wolf Mountain Wine... and let me tell you: FABULOUS! Too bad I'm a light weight... I was buzzed on half a glass! I'm going to have to get more (You can find it at Harry's Farmers Market and Whole Foods).

Once our bellies were full we rented some bikes and went to the Silver Comet Trail for 1.5 hours of exercise and fun!

Afterwards we had to rush home to clean up so we could make it to the movies on time. We saw "What happens in Vegas".

Today we put some cute little bear slippers on Elijah. During our nightly, neighborhood walk Elijah was unusually not interested in his "outer" surroundings. No. He was consumed with his FEET! lol.

We're not sure if it's b/c he's just now noticing them, or if it was b/c of the slippers we put on him!

Last night Elijah woke up every 2 hours for food. I'm not sure if he was actually hungry (although he ate every last ounce) or if he's not feeling well. The night before he woke up twice, but I thought it was a fluke. I HOPE this is not turning into a new pattern, as he used to sleep a solid 7-8 hours straight.

Anyone have any ideas as to what MAY be going on?

Aside being zombie like, I decided to try and make it a "Fun Day" for Elijah. I can't believe how little he's napped considering his lack of sleep last night.

Today we've played in his play gym, read books, mocked each other's funny noises... and yes people. Today Elijah had a "mini spa day"! lol.

He had a really nice bath and had his nails cut/trimmed. If he'll slow down for a second, I'll attempt an infant massage too!

Regardless, I thought this was the perfect opportunity for him to wear his new robe! =)

Elijah was definitely grumpy today. I'm not sure WHAT is going on. He STILL has diarrhea (which I'm only giving 1-2 more days until we go BACK to the doctor) and in addition, now a dry cough. However, his appetite is back ten fold!

Today was spent dealing with a lot of cries and infant tantrums.

I'm happy to say that you can't tell by looking at the picture!
After we took our family, nightly walk around the neighborhood... Elijah was all smiles... and well, being just plain silly!
...At least for a minute anyway! ;)

Today was just GREAT! Apparently I was sleeping pretty heavily b/c I didn't hear Elijah crying. I slept in for a good while until Mike and Elijah woke me up around 10am. I have been really TIRED these past few days! Luckily I woke up to the cutest smile and the sweetest laugh EVER! Needless to say, Elijah was in a "happy state" this morning!

Soon we were off to Chastain Park. We had a nice 1 hour walk before we stopped at the baseball fields to sit and feed Elijah. Earlier we were hesitant to go b/c of the prediction of rainfall, but it turned out to be a really pretty day!

Afterwards we stopped at Whole Foods for some gluten free products. Today was Elijah's first trip to the grocery store... and I must say he was very well behaved (NOT to say that this was his first time in any store. We've frequented "Babies r us" MANY times!)

After all was said and done, we settled in for the night topping off our lovely day with Season Premiers of our Fave's: Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and of COURSE... Desperate Housewives!

Yes, today was a GREAT day!

Today I took Elijah to the doctor. He's been having loose stools with blood and mucous.
In the past there was talk that he may be allergic to lactose, so we've been using lactose free formula. Now the doctors think that he may be allergic to cow's milk in general (even lactose-free). We've chosen to use hypoallergenic formula and see where that gets us. In the meantime Elijah hasn't been eating much, and has REALLY slowed his weight gain.
(Today he weighed 13lbs 11 oz, which is just shy of a 1lb weight gain in almost 3 weeks).

My opinion: This is a result of a side effect from his Rotovirus vaccine. Research shows that he could very well has slight symptoms of actually having the virus. Luckily no fever, but I still hate seeing my little one in pain.

We're giving it one week. If it's not better we have to get culture kits to see if it's bacteria related.

Just pray for our little fella! I'm sure he'll be fine, but prayers never hurt!

Today Mike took care of our little guy while I slept as long as I wanted! 12 noon came way too quickly, and I forced myself to peel out of bed!
I awoke to breakfast that Mike delivered to the bedroom. I have the best hubby in the world!

It's quite surreal to be celebrating my very first Mother's Day!
...What better gift could I get than that precious little face???

Mike and I were getting ready to go to bed, then leaned over Elijah's bassinet to kiss him "good-night". He suddenly opened his eyes really wide and kept staring at us! It was the funniest thing, as he is usually sleeping pretty heavily at that time! I just had to run and grab my camera!
We're still wondering WHAT caused him to wake suddenly, and act like he just drank a shot of espresso! It was another few hours before we could get him back to sleep!

Today Elijah was scheduled for his 2 month vaccinations. We had some cause for concern due to the possible link of immunizations and Autism, not to mention the many adverse side effects. After much discussion and prayer, Mike and I decided that Elijah WILl get immunized, but that he will only get one shot at a time. I will go back every week to add another shot onto his list until he is up to date. We feel comfortable with this decision, as it will give his body more time to handle each shot, and it will allow us to know WHICH shots are causing any side effects, if they do at all.

We were so nervous that he was going to scream! Last month he had his Hepatitis B shot and was NOT happy! The video below is of him AFTER his shot! He didn't even CRY!!!
What a brave little boy! Goodness, I love him!

This picture was taken before we took Elijah to the Hackett Grandparents house. We had the DARNDEST time trying to get Elijah to look at the camera! While the grandparents played "babysitter", Mike and I went to Gerson Vasquez's birthday dinner. During dinner we got the "Phone Call"! Angela Vasquez gave birth to her baby boy, Carter Vasquez. 8lbs 9oz! Congratulations to their family for their beautiful addition!

Today Elijah decided to show major interest in his play gym! He kept reaching up and to the left. Every time he hit the dangling pieces he would kick and wave his arms all over! Talk about TIRING! ;)

Next he moved on to the swing for a quick nap. Everytime he's picked up from the swing, his bottom is still "sitting". It's the cutest thing ever!

It was then meal time, in which he thought he'd hold his bottle HIMSELF!

We were so excited for this day to arrive! It was just FANTASTIC!
Attending were: My dad (Grandpa Shoham who gave the blessing), My mom (Grandma Karen, My Sister (Aunt Traci), My Step-Mom, and of COURSE, Mike and I!
The spirit was so strong, and the prayer was just beautiful!
It meant so much having my dad bless Elijah, as he was the one that gave me my blessing as a baby. In addition, my mother and father sat only one chair away from each other. I don't think EITHER of them will EVER know how much that meant to me... after 17+ years of an ugly divorce.
Elijah was so well behaved... he curiously looked at each person that lye their hands on him, but to my relief, he DIDN'T CRY! =)
My baby boy is already making his momma proud!
Thank goodness for water-proof mascara!

Today we took Elijah to "Grillen with the Hanchey's", where he got to sport his new "too cool for school" outfit!
Summer, Justin, and Madison Hanchey had a large, kid friendly, gathering. It was a lot of fun!

After returning from Elijah's 10 day dr. check up, we finally got the "all clear" to give Elijah his first real bath! What an experience THAT was! I was so nervous to get him wet, and being the worrier that I am, that he was going to drown! Luckily, and THANKFULLY, he didn't! He's such a trooper!

Next was dry-off time. He was NOT of fan of that, nor of his bath. However, he DID smell really good afterwards!

Today I am incredibly TIRED as you probably suspect. Mike and I had a long night... our first night home and we were by ourselves!
Mike will be home with me for 2 weeks and after that his mom will stay with me for a week (Thank goodness). In the meantime I think I'll cry for MY mommy!
I'm tired, hungry, and I need to use the restroom!
...No rest for the weary! haha.

In all seriousness, Elijah is such a pleasant baby. So far, he's really easy to figure out. He doesn't cry unless he wants something (usually food, but if not how many things could he possibly want? Really?). That makes things easier.
If I could stop taking pictures maybe I'd get more sleep! haha

Wow! So today is the day that we're getting discharged. I can't believe that we're going HOME!... with a BABY! This is so crazy!
I'll be honest, I'm a little nervous. Okay. A LOT nervous!
I'm still trying to recover from my surgery, and am in a lot of pain. Luckily I have a wonderful husband to help me. He took 2 weeks off of work, which will be SUPER nice!
I was told we couldn't take the nurses home with us! =(
lol!
Here we go! Reality!
In having said THAT... I'm so eager to introduce our little guy to his new home. How EXCITING?!
We brought 3 outfit options for Elijah's going home outfit. Thank GOODNESS we did b/c two of them are WAY too big!
Guess we'll go with what fits!

It's day 3 and I'm starting to get the hang of things, although Mike and I decided to put Elijah in the nursery for a bit b/c we couldn't sleep! We were constantly worried that Elijah was choking! ...Only negative is that they started him on formula, so I think it may be the start of nipple confusion.
On the "up" side, the nursery is directly across the hall from our room (#584)... I can just peep out the door and see him! ;)

Mike is a natural with our little man. I'm so blessed to have a husband that is SO incredibly good with children... and BABIES!

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, My dad and Mike's parents showed up baring gifts! My dad brought a plant in the shape of a heart, with "It's a boy" gum assembled into it! The Hackett Grandparents brought chocolate Godiva Cigars to celebrate! Cigars never tasted so good! ;)
(YUM... CHOCOLATE!)
Of course the proud Grandparents couldn't get enough!
They informed me that Elijah was perfect! As if I didn't already know! =)

Aunt Jesse and Uncle Chris stopped by, as well... unfortunately we did not get any pictures with them! =(
They weren't feeling well so they didn't want to get close, BUT that wasn't going to stop them from coming by!

My brother, David, flew in from California for the birth of Elijah.
What a neat experience to see him cuddling and cooing with my newborn baby! It was very touching to see how much he cared for him... and for him to see some of HIMSELF in Elijah! Even though he lives across the country, I can tell he's going to be the best uncle EVER!

My sister was there, as well! She lives in Georgia, so no flight was involved (although she was my helping hand getting David to and from the airport)!
I think Aunt Traci is already flashing forward with how she's going to rebel with Elijah when he's older! haha

It hasn't even been 24 hours since Elijah's arrival. This whole experience is still very surreal! Elijah is having problems with phlegm in his throat and keeps choking. I am amazed at how quickly the nurses respond to the emergency button. Thankfully they showed us how to manage the situation. Elijah is thriving and eating often! He doesn't cry much at all!
He's already the perfect baby!

Monday, February 11, 2008 at 5:23pm. He weighed 7lbs 3 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long!
He has blond hair and blue eyes... and scored a 9 on both apgar tests!
We are elated with joy and overwhelmed with love!

Today I had an appointment with my ob-gyn, Dr. Winifred Soufi (Who is FABULOUS, btw). She wanted to monitor me by conducting a fetal non-stress test as a safety precaution, to ensure that Elijah was thriving, as she wanted to induce me tomorrow (I AM 9 days PAST DUE, people!). During the procedure she detected that Elijah's heart rate was dropping during my contractions, indicating he was/is under stress. She immediately sent me to the hospital for a C-Section.
A C-SECTION????!!!!
I am so nervous! I REALLY did NOT want any medications/epidural! I wanted a picture perfect, non-medicated, vaginal delivery! (I'm sure all mothers are laughing at that statement!)

So here I am, waiting until 5:15pm for my surgery... and I'm STARVING!!! I REALLY want to eat, and I'm SUPER thirsty! I'm hooked up to an IV (always fun) that hurt like CRUD. Ugh.
At least I have some wonderful friends and family helping me through my wait!
The Hanchey's (Summer, Justin, and Madison) have been so wonderful throughout my entire pregnancy. Of COURSE they were there! ;)
Then there was my mom, my hubby, my hubby's parents, and even some of their friends!
I can't WAIT to get this over with... and see my beautiful, precious angel!
Yikes! Can't believe I'm going to be a MOMMY!... TODAY!!!
